My ask.

I have an exciting opportunity that God has placed on my heart and would love for you to consider being part of it. This November, I have the incredible privilege of joining a mission trip to Nepal for two weeks. I’d be incredibly honored if you would partner with me whether through prayer, financial support, or both!

To make this opportunity possible, I’m humbly seeking to raise $2,200.00. I’m looking forward to seeing God’s love for the people of Nepal first hand through the work of Touch Nepal, the local churches and believers.

This amount covers accommodations, in-country airfare, land travel and food. Plus, our team wants to be an abundant blessing to the people of Nepal - we want to bring funds to give as special generosity giftings to the churches and pastors we’ll be visiting, bless the kids and tutors at Learning Seed, and do a compassion outreach for the leprosy affected people in Khokana.

Your donation is 100% deductible through Touch Nepal, a California 501(c)(3)

If you have any other questions or encouragement, please shoot me an email at heather.houchin@yahoo.com or call me!

Dhanybhad! In Nepali that means thank you!

MINSTRIES

This trip would be nearly impossible to do without the relationships of Touch Nepal to bring us into these communities and places. We’re going to do a large community outreach while we’re there. We’ll get to meet all the people of Khokana Leprosy Community including other Believers who live there. We’ll be able to pray for and yes, we can touch the people as well. We’ll distribute, rice, oil, sugar, tea, soap, fruit and more to over 200 people!

We are going to get to visit two of the three Learning Seed after school tutoring centers! One is actually located in Khokana amongst the leprosy affected people and the other is in the ancient city of Bhaktapur about two hours away. We’ll get to see how caring for these little ones has given huge favor and gospel opportunity inside these communities. Of course we’ll get to do activities with the children, visit with parents, along with getting to meet our amazing Christian sisters, Somita and Anuska, who are the daily program directors in each of the Learning Seed locations.

While there, we will also get to celebrate at two church gatherings. Churches in Nepal meet on Saturdays because that is the one day off for Hindus and Buddhists in Nepal. Nepalis go to work and school six days a week but they have many, many Hindu holidays off, some lasting nearly a month! We will get to celebrate with the church in Pokhara while we are there and then in Bhaktapur on another Saturday.

Our team will provide a lunch meal for everyone at each of the church gatherings to bless the people as well as having some additional time for fellowship! We’ll also be distributing some financial gifts to bless the hard working pastors.

We’ll also be attending Touch Nepal’s Remote Area Pastor Training Graduation ceremony in Pokhara, Nepal. Pokhara is the gateway to the Himalayas! These pastors have been making their way through Touch Nepal’s two year onsite training. They learn 12 major and 12 minor subjects and very importantly, how to teach the bible verse by verse which is not widely known how to do.

Leading up to the trip, we’re also going to be doing spiritual preparation and studying. Touch Nepal will help us better understand the spiritual fabric within Hinduism and Buddhism which has bound Nepal for generations.

Once there, we will get some unique opportunities to visit some of the UNESCO World Heritage sites including Boudhanath Stupa (Buddhist) and Pashupatinanth Temple (Hindu), Kathmandu Durbar Square, Bhaktpaur Durbar Square and others. An important part of this mission trip is not only to go, but to be spiritually prepared to pray for and contend for the kingdom of Jesus to take more ground in Nepal.

RELIGION IN NEPAL

  • Nepal is 82% Hindu and 8% Tibetan Buddhist. The two religions co-exist peacefully together.

  • Less than 3% are Christian. God is doing an amazing work reaching people old and young in Nepal. Check out this graphic showing the size of Nepal in the black outline, compared to California. The blue line represents about 3% of those who are Christian in Nepal currently. That leaves God a lot of room to still work and I’m excited to be there to see this!

  • Nepali Christians greet each other by saying “Jaymashi” instead of the more traditional greeting of namaste. It means victory in Christ!

It’s a big adventure but an even bigger opportunity for me to grow in my own faith while encouraging other Believers in Nepal.
